Free Barcode & Rugged Tech Tools

Four free tools for anyone working with barcodes, rugged devices or warehouse hardware — built by the team at GadgetCircle. No sign-up, no watermark, everything runs in your browser and nothing you enter leaves your device. Free to use and link to; if you find them useful in an article or guide, a credit link to this page is appreciated.

Free Barcode Generator

Generate print-ready EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, QR Code or DataMatrix barcodes. Download as PNG.

EAN-13 needs 12 digits (check digit added automatically) or 13 digits. UPC-A needs 11 or 12 digits. Code 128 accepts any text. Tip: for shelf and shipping labels, print at 300dpi minimum and never scale a barcode's width and height independently — it breaks the bar ratios and scanners will reject it.

Printing labels at volume? Pair your labels with a scanner that reads them first time — see our guide to the best warehouse barcode scanners.

Barcode Test Tool — will your barcode scan?

Upload a photo of any barcode or use your camera. We decode it in your browser and tell you the format and content. Nothing is uploaded to any server.

(or drag & drop — JPG/PNG)

If a barcode fails here it will usually fail on a till too. Common causes: printed too small, low contrast (grey on white, or printed on brown card), damaged quiet zone (the blank margin either side), or stretched artwork. A dedicated 2D imager reads damaged codes far better than a phone camera — this tool uses your device camera, so treat a pass here as a good sign and a fail as a warning, not a verdict.

Barcodes failing at the till? The fix is usually a 2D imager rather than a laser — our 2D barcode scanner guide explains why.

IP Rating Checker — what protection does your job actually need?

Answer two questions and get the minimum IP rating and durability spec for your working environment.

RatingDustWaterTypical use
IP54ProtectedSplashesLight outdoor, offices
IP65SealedLow-pressure jetsWarehouses, sites, rain
IP67SealedSubmersion to 1m / 30minOutdoor work, couriers
IP68SealedSubmersion beyond 1mMarine, extreme outdoor
IP69KSealedHigh-pressure hot jetsFood production, washdown

IP ratings cover dust and water only. Drop protection is a separate standard — MIL-STD-810G/H — and matters just as much on hard floors. A device can be IP68 and still shatter from waist height if it lacks MIL-STD certification.
