Barcode Scanners

GadgetCircle stocks the widest range of barcode scanners for business — from lightweight Bluetooth handheld scanners for retail and small business to rugged Android PDAs for warehouse and industrial operations. Every scanner in this range is chosen for reliability, scan accuracy and real-world performance across full working shifts, with free UK delivery and B2B volume pricing on bulk orders.

Whether you need a simple USB barcode scanner for a single till, a wireless barcode scanner for a warehouse picking team, or a fully rugged Android PDA for logistics and field operations, GadgetCircle has the right device at the right price.

What does a barcode scanner do?

A barcode scanner (also called a barcode reader) reads the data in a barcode and sends it instantly to your till, computer or inventory system — far faster and more accurately than typing by hand. Modern 2D scanners read both traditional 1D barcodes and QR codes, DataMatrix and codes shown on phone screens — increasingly essential as UK carriers, loyalty apps and the NHS Falsified Medicines Directive all now use 2D codes.

Types of barcode scanner

Choosing the right scanner depends on your environment and workflow:

  • USB wired scanners — plug straight into a PC or till and work instantly as keyboard input. The most reliable option for a fixed checkout or inventory station.
  • Wireless & Bluetooth scanners — free workers to move across a warehouse floor or shop. Bluetooth pairs directly with iPad and Android tablet POS; 2.4G uses a USB dongle. See our wireless barcode scanner guide.
  • 2D handheld scanners — read standard barcodes and QR codes, essential for modern logistics and pharmaceutical operations. Compared in our 2D barcode scanner guide.
  • Data collectors — store thousands of barcodes offline with a built-in screen, for stocktaking where there's no network.
  • Rugged Android PDAs — combine a full barcode scanner with a complete Android computer, running your WMS apps natively over 4G or WiFi. See the best rugged barcode scanner UK 2026 guide.

1D or 2D — which do you need?

A 1D scanner reads linear barcodes only. A 2D scanner reads those plus QR codes, DataMatrix and phone-screen barcodes. For any new setup in 2026, choose 2D — Royal Mail, DPD and Evri all now use QR codes on labels, and the price difference is minimal. Every scanner in our range is a 2D imager that reads QR codes as standard.

Barcode scanners by brand

Looking for a specific brand? We stock mid-market 2D scanners that match the core scanning performance of the big enterprise names at far lower prices for small and medium UK businesses:

Who uses barcode scanners?

Warehouses, logistics companies, retail stores, NHS trusts, construction sites, manufacturing facilities and small businesses across the UK, US, Australia and Canada. Any operation that needs fast, accurate scanning across a full working shift benefits from a dedicated barcode scanner over a smartphone camera. For a use-case comparison, read our guide to the best barcode scanner for small business UK 2026, or our regional guides for Australia and Canada.

Buying for a team?

Most of our scanner customers are equipping teams rather than buying a single unit. If you need 5 or more scanners, contact us for volume pricing and we'll put together the right package for your operation.
